Austin's Neighborhood Café
The Hearth & Bean is a little hole-in-the-wall café in the heart of Austin, serving fresh coffee, house-baked goods, and hearty lunches made with local ingredients. We open early for the morning commuters and stay warm all day for anyone who needs a place to land.
No pretense, no rush — just honest food, good coffee, and a seat by the fire that's always yours.
Fresh Today
Every morning Mara and the team put a little extra love into a handful of rotating specials. These are the ones folks drive across town for.
Our house-roasted dark blend, pulled as a single or double shot over steamed whole milk with a touch of local honey. Rich, round, and exactly what the morning calls for. The regulars have been known to order two.
$4.50
Laminated in-house each morning, finished with a brown butter glaze and a pinch of sea salt from a local Texas purveyor. Flaky on the outside, pillowy in the middle — it's everything a pastry should be. Limited to 24 per day.
$4.25
Warm farro from Johnson's Grain Co., roasted seasonal vegetables, a soft-poached egg, and a lemon-tahini drizzle. Filling, nourishing, and made to order for the mid-morning hunger that hits right around nine. A neighborhood staple.

Our Story
Hi — I'm Mara Lopez, and The Hearth & Bean is my little corner of Austin. I opened these doors because I believed this neighborhood deserved a place that felt genuinely welcoming: no ropes, no reservations, no attitude. Just great coffee, food made from scratch, and a room warm enough to linger in. The fireplace in the corner wasn't optional — it was the whole idea.
Everything we serve starts with local ingredients because Austin's farmers and producers deserve to be on the plate. We source our eggs from a family farm twenty minutes east, our grains from Johnson's Grain Co., and our seasonal produce from the SFC Farmers Market. When you eat here, you're eating Austin — and that matters to us every single day.
Our menu is simple by design. Fresh coffee, house-baked goods in the morning, and hearty, honest lunches in the afternoon. We don't try to be everything to everyone. We try to be exactly what you need when you walk through that door — a good meal, a warm cup, and a moment to breathe. The morning commuters know us for the early pour-overs. The afternoon crowd stays for the soup.
The Hearth & Bean isn't just a café — it's a neighborhood institution in the making. We want every person who walks in to feel like a regular from day one. Austin has given us so much, and every plate, every cup, every "see you tomorrow" is how we give a little of it back. We're glad you found us.

What Neighbors Say
Don't take our word for it — here's what the neighborhood has to say.
★★★★★
"I stop in every single morning on my way to work and the cortado is always dialed in perfectly. Mara knows my order before I even get to the counter. The brown butter croissant on Fridays is the reason I get out of bed. This place genuinely feels like a second living room — warm, quiet, and real."

★★★★★
"The Hearth Grain Bowl is one of the best lunches in Austin — I've tried basically all of them. What I love is that they actually change the vegetables with the season instead of just saying they do. The lemon-tahini drizzle is perfect every single time. I bring my laptop and stay for two hours and nobody rushes me out. That says everything."

★★★★★
"We moved to Austin eight months ago and finding The Hearth & Bean was the moment it finally felt like home. The jalapeño cheddar scone is unreal — I've started making Saturday mornings a non-negotiable ritual just to get one before they sell out. Mara runs the warmest room in Austin, full stop. Can't recommend it enough to anyone new to the neighborhood."
